Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The pursuit of sustainable energy solutions has become imperative in the face of growing environmental challenges and the urgent need to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. Among the various alternatives, biomass energy stands out as a promising and versatile source, offering significant potential to contribute to the global energy mix. Biomass energy, derived from organic materials such as plant and animal waste, provides a renewable and carbon-neutral option that can help mitigate climate change, enhance energy security, and promote sustainable development.

This Special Issue, entitled "Recent Technologies and Applications of Sustainable Biomass Energy", aims to showcase the latest advancements and innovative applications in the field of biomass energy. The collection of articles included herein highlights cutting-edge research, technological breakthroughs, and practical implementations that demonstrate the potential of biomass energy to address contemporary energy challenges.

In recent years, substantial progress has been made in the development of efficient biomass conversion technologies, including biochemical, thermochemical, and physicochemical processes. Innovations in biochemical conversion processes, such as anaerobic digestion and fermentation, have enhanced the efficiency of converting biomass into biofuels and biogas. Similarly, advances in thermochemical processes, such as pyrolysis and gasification, have opened new avenues for producing bio-oil, syngas, and other valuable products from biomass feedstocks. Additionally, physicochemical processes, like torrefaction and hydrothermal carbonization, have improved the energy density and transportability of biomass materials.

The articles featured in this Special Issue also explore the diverse applications of biomass energy across various sectors. From power generation and transportation to industrial processes and residential heating, biomass energy is being harnessed in innovative ways to meet diverse energy needs. Moreover, the integration of biomass energy with other renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, is examined, highlighting the potential for creating hybrid systems that enhance overall energy efficiency and reliability.

I hope this Special Issue will inspire further research and development in the field of biomass energy, driving the transition towards a more sustainable and resilient energy future.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
