Special Issue Information
In this Special Issue, we aim to provide a collection of papers discussing the influences of neuropsychiatric disorders on neurobiology and behavior, with a focus on preclinical research. Key questions addressed include the following: What are the neurobiological mechanisms underlying some psychiatric disorders? How do neuropsychiatric disorders manifest themselves at the behavioral level? Do neuropsychiatric disorders induce neurobiological and behavioral alterations? Can safer and more effective treatments be developed?
This research topic welcomes all types of articles, including original research papers, reviews, and short communications.
Dear Colleagues,
Virtually all psychiatric disorders manifest themselves through deviant behavioral patterns. During the last several decades advances have been made in isolating factors on a cellular, receptor, neuroanatomical and connectivity level that contribute to the manifestation of clinically recognized pathological behavior. However, further gain of knowledge through basic research is essential to understand more aspects of the neurobiological mechanisms underlying the behavioral dimension of psychiatric disorders and improve their prediction and treatment options.
In this Special Issue we propose to ask the transdisciplinary questions of how and why do neuropsychiatric disorders manifest themselves on a behavioral level; what are the archetypical molecular mechanisms underlying them; and how can we create safer and more effective treatments through a common, interdisciplinary effort? Hence your expert opinion mixed with a portion of looking-beyond-the-boundaries enthusiasm is needed and can manifest itself in original research articles, reviews, and short communications contributions. Novel, controversial and provocative points of view are most welcome.
The convergence of different viewpoints on neuropsychiatric disorders such as genetic mutations, epigenetics, gene expression, pharmacology, behavioral neuroscience, opto- and chemogenetics, proteomics, immunology, functional imaging, connectivity, and whole-brain metabolism may be essential to extend our knowledge in understanding neuropsychiatric pathology as a whole. Such an approach could be key in creating novel and innovative diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic strategies.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biology is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue
- Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
- Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
- Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
- External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
- e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
