Chiral Nanomaterials and Their Photo(Electro)catalytic Applications

Environmental pollution and energy crisis are important issues in today's society. Photocatalysis and electrocatalysis for fuel production and the synthesis of high value-added molecules have become an important way to solve these problems. In particular, the potential of photocatalysis and electrocatalysis is becoming increasingly prominent in the face of the development of a low-carbon energy economy. In this context, high-performance catalysts have become the key to the application of photocatalysis and electrocatalysis. With the in-depth understanding of catalyst structures and thermodynamics and kinetics of catalytic reaction, the precise construction of catalysts and modulation of surface/interface structure have laid an important foundation for further improving photocatalytic and electrocatalytic performance.

Chirality is closely related to biological phenomena, and significantly affects the properties of substances. The development of chirality science has made great contributions to the progress of human society. From catalytic recognition studies of molecules to chiral-induced spin selection (CISS) effects and chirality-promoted spin-polarized singlet states, chiral nanomaterials are emerging in the field of photocatalysis and electrocatalysis.

This Special Issue is focused on recent advances in the synthesis of chiral nanomaterials and helical nanostructures for applications in photocatalysis and electrocatalysis, as well as studies on the chiral structures of nanoparticles and their catalytic behaviors. Studies related to the preparation of chiral nanomaterials, including chiral induction, transfer, amplification and modulation, as well as research works on the effects of chiral ligands, coordination atoms, non-covalent interactions, spin states, and confined environments on catalytic performance are welcome. The Special Issue will also include but not be limited to research into the design and development of new photocatalysts and electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), nitrogen reduction reaction, CO₂ reduction reaction (CO₂RR), etc., as well as their applications in fuel cells, metal-air batteries, water splitting devices, and so on.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
