Innovations in Sustainable Construction and Road Engineering Materials

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue will showcase cutting-edge research on advanced construction and road engineering materials, with a particular focus on sustainability, intelligence, and environmental friendliness. The Special Issue welcomes a broad spectrum of topics, including high-performance composites, green building materials, smart and adaptive materials, carbon emission reduction strategies, and the utilization of solid waste and recycled resources in construction applications.

We encourage contributions that explore innovative material design, advanced characterization techniques, performance optimization, and lifecycle assessment methods to promote the development of eco-efficient and resilient infrastructure systems. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Low-carbon cementitious materials;
• Recycled and waste-derived materials;
• Self-healing and adaptive construction materials;
• Energy-efficient and climate-resilient construction solutions;
• Smart materials and functional composites;
• Carbon reduction strategies in infrastructure materials;
• Digital technologies, AI, and data-driven innovations for material design;
• Sustainability assessment and environmental impact evaluation.

Both experimental and theoretical studies, as well as comprehensive review papers, are welcome. This Special Issue will address current challenges and opportunities involved in developing next-generation sustainable materials for the built environment.

You are invited to submit your original research articles, short communications, and review papers for consideration in this Special Issue.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Construction Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
