New Insights into Emergency Ultrasound: Benefits, Applications, and Best Practices

Ultrasound has garnered widespread recognition as a potent asset in the realm of diagnosing and assessing various clinical conditions. Many medical institutions now employing urgent ultrasound screenings have reported notably accelerated turnaround times and are able to perform the swifter identification of potential life-threatening crises. These crises encompass scenarios such as internal bleeding resulting from blunt trauma, abdominal emergencies, ectopic pregnancies, pericardial tamponade, and aortic aneurysms. Presently, the application of ultrasound extends beyond its conventional radiological confines and finds utility across a spectrum of at least eight distinct medical disciplines. Among these disciplines, emergency medicine stands out as a significant contributor to the expanding research on ultrasound's diverse clinical applications. The intrinsic appeal of immediate point-of-care sonographic evaluations for addressing emergent concerns positions it its application as an optimal tool in the armamentarium of emergency specialists. In this context, this Special Issue extends a cordial invitation to researchers and practitioners working in this field to submit a wide range of contributions, encompassing original research, comprehensive reviews, technical innovations, and clinical insights, all centered around the manifold aspects of ultrasound imaging.
