Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The images recorded from subjects using different medical imaging modalities provide valuable information for diagnosing various ailments. However, it is a cumbersome task for medical professionals to check these images to diagnose different pathologies manually. Artificial intelligence (AI)-based automated diagnosis systems are widely used to assist medical professionals in diagnosing different diseases using medical images. In recent years, deep learning methods have become popular for medical image processing applications such as the segmentation of medical images, medical image quality assessment, automated detection of different pathologies using medical images, etc. This Special Issue will help to demonstrate the application of deep learning techniques for the processing of different types of medical images such as X-ray images, ultrasound images, thermal images, fundus images, optical tomography (OCT) images, echocardiography images, magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography (PET), etc. This Special Issue welcomes high-quality original research papers and review papers on the application of deep learning for medical image processing.
We expect submissions of articles related but not limited to the following topics:
- Deep learning for X-ray image processing;
- Deep learning for ultrasound image processing;
- Deep learning and graph CNN models for fundus image processing;
- MRI and FMRI data processing using deep neural networks;
- Deep learning models for thermal-imaging-based biomedical applications;
- Deep learning for cardiac echocardiography imaging;
- Deep learning for other medical imaging applications.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
