Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues,

Electricity plays a crucial role in shaping the economic landscape and prosperity of nations, serving as a barometer of national development; however, the growing need for electricity, coupled with aging infrastructure, presents substantial challenges to energy transition efforts. This shift demands the widespread implementation of advanced diagnostic, monitoring, and protection technologies, as well as improvements in insulation materials. Furthermore, climate change is exacerbating the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, posing significant threats to physical infrastructure. As global greenhouse gas concentrations continue to rise, these climate-related challenges are expected to escalate in frequency, intensity, and duration.

The primary challenges revolve around developing methodologies with which to evaluate the condition and longevity of power equipment integrated into the grid, alongside enhancing their efficiency through innovative designs and the application of advanced insulating materials.

Hence, this Special Issue seeks to integrate emerging trends in grid digitalization, diagnostic and monitoring techniques for power equipment, and the utilization of new or enhanced materials to enhance insulation system performance. This comprehensive approach aims to provide valuable insights for researchers and engineers, facilitating a deeper understanding of technological advancements crucial for improving asset management, operational reliability, and safety.

Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Power equipment modeling, digital twins;
  • New or emerging diagnostic/monitoring technologies;
  • Intelligent condition assessment and lifetime management;
  • Diagnosis and prognosis of power equipment;
  • New or improved materials for power equipment performance enhancement;
  • Challenges and new trends in grid protection.
