Special Issue Information

The term ‘state-owned forest areas’ generally describes ecologically functional areas with abundant natural forest resources and strategic timber reserve bases, providing sufficient resource support for the protection of biodiversity and the advancement of regional economic development. However, disorderly forest resource development strategies have caused crises of depletion of natural forest resources in state-owned forest areas and led to crises of local economic development. In order to address resource and economic crises, the government has implemented a series of large-scale forestry policies, such as natural forest resource protection projects and the decentralization or centralization of forest management rights. During the implementation of the above-mentioned forestry policies, profound changes took place in the economic and social development of state-owned forest areas. Therefore, it is urgent for scholars in forestry economic management to scientifically evaluate the social-economic impact of large-scale forestry policies on state-owned forest areas on the basis of accurately applying forestry economic theory. This Special Issue plans to give an overview of the historical changes to and recent progress in large-scale forestry policies in state-owned forest areas in order to provide practical advice and selective contributions for evaluating their socio-economic impacts.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • The institutional evolution and historical experience of large-scale forestry policies in state-owned forest areas;
  • Resources protection and development of state-owned forest areas under the large-scale forestry policies;
  • Strategic change of state-owned forestry enterprises under the large-scale forestry policies;
  • The impact of large-scale forestry policies on the economic development of state-owned forest areas;
  • The impact of large-scale forestry policies on the livelihood of forestry workers in state-owned forest areas;

The impact of large-scale forestry policies on the welfare of state-owned forest areas.
