Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The number of people affected with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (OA) is increasing worldwide due to the aging of the population and the obesity epidemic. This fact is a problem to be solved as knee OA is a major cause of disability among older adults globally. The cause of primary (idiopathic) knee OA is typically the result of wear and tear and progressive loss of articular cartilage without any apparent underlying reason. On the other hand, secondary knee OA is cause by the several diseases or conditions that leads the chronic inflammation within knee joint such as obesity, trauma, gout, and rheumatoid arthritis. The key to preventing knee OA is to intervene the modifiable risk factors to develop secondary knee OA such as obesity, instability of knee joint, chronic inflammation, mal alignment, meniscal tear, and so on. The approach for intervention should be done from multifactorial aspects. This Special Issue focus on all of the strategies to prevent knee OA including diet therapy, physiotherapy, pharmacological treatments, biotherapies, and surgical interventions.
