Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Oral health is an essential component of overall health. It plays a critical role in individuals’ quality of life. Oral diseases—including dental caries, periodontal diseases (gingivitis and periodontitis), peri-implant diseases and conditions, tooth loss, and oral cancer—vary in prevalence across populations but remain major public health concerns in many countries. These conditions are frequently associated with pain, functional limitations, aesthetic dissatisfaction, and psychosocial distress.
In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for non-invasive, patient-centered therapeutic approaches, particularly among individuals seeking to improve their facial aesthetics, self-esteem, and quality of life. At the same time, a growing body of evidence highlights the bidirectional interactions between oral health and systemic conditions such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and pregnancy-related disorders. These interrelationships emphasize the need for integrative research approaches that transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries.
This Special Issue aims to bring together high-quality contributions that explore the biological and clinical dimensions of oral health. We welcome submissions that investigate the pathophysiology of oral diseases, including studies focused on the discovery and validation of salivary or systemic biomarkers, inflammatory pathways, and microbial dysbiosis. Likewise, we encourage research assessing clinical outcomes, trends in prevalence and incidence, impacts on quality of life, and patient-centered therapeutic strategies.
Furthermore, oral health does not exist in isolation. An expanding body of evidence highlights the bidirectional relationship between oral conditions and systemic health issues such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases. We particularly invite manuscripts that explore these interconnections.
This Special Issue is an open forum for original research articles, clinical trials, epidemiological studies, systematic reviews, and interdisciplinary perspectives. By bridging basic science and clinical practice, it seeks to promote evidence-based strategies that enhance both oral health and overall well-being.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Life is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
