Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Soft robotics has experienced rapid development in recent years. This field leverages a unique design approach based on soft materials and structures, enhancing the robots' capabilities in delicate and complex settings. As a result, small-scale soft robots are emerging as highly potent solutions for operations in constrained spaces such as pipelines, collapsed structures post-disaster, and within the human body. In these scenarios, the mobility, structure, and design methodologies of robots are often limited, yet soft robotics technology adapts well to irregular and confined spaces, allowing for better interaction and task fulfillment.

This Special Issue, titled "Development and Applications of Small-Scale Soft Robotics," aims to highlight the substantial application potential of miniaturized soft robotic systems. We focus on the advancements and applications of small- and micro-scale soft robots, including but not limited to their actuation methods, sensing abilities, system integration, and control, particularly emphasizing the development of systems tailored to real-world environments. We invite researchers and practitioners to contribute their latest findings and innovations to help push the boundaries of what small-scale soft robotics can achieve in practical applications.
