Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Global demographic and epidemiological transitions are occurring. A large portion of overall health spending is devoted to older people, with much of this being taken up by non-communicable diseases and disability burden. Lifestyle habits, including a healthy diet and physical activity, have been shown to be beneficial for promoting health and prolonging healthy life years. Nutrition and physical activity can have a specific impact on aging-related health outcomes and disability status in either prevention or intervention schemes. Given the importance of this issue, the journal Nutrients is planning a Special Issue on “Diet and Lifestyle habits, Chronic diseases and disability status in Older Adults”, with the aim of providing a source for accurate, up-to-date scientific information on this topic.

We invite you and your co-workers to submit original research findings or review articles on this topic. Manuscripts should focus on lifestyle habits (nutrition, physical activity), their patterns, chronic disease and disability epidemiology for older adults, or the direct impact of specific food components, energy intake, macro- and micro-nutrients, alcohol intake, food insecurity, innovative foods, malnourishment, or appetite on the chronic disease and disability status of older populations. We also welcome manuscripts that focus on nutrition intervention studies (i.e., protein diet, diet quality) and the effects of nutrient intake and well-being processes (i.e., functionality, disability, and frailty).
