Advancing Block Co-Polymer Nanomedicines: Innovations in Effective Drug Delivery

The field of nanomedicine has witnessed remarkable advancements in recent years, particularly in the development of nanomedicines for effective delivery. These innovative systems offer unprecedented opportunities for targeted therapy, enabling the precise delivery of therapeutic agents to specific cells or tissues while minimizing systemic side effects. This Special Issue aims to explore the latest research and developments in advanced nanomedicines based on biocompatible block co-polymers with a specific focus on formulation strategies, characterization, and their applications in effective drug delivery. Pluronics is one key example of synthetic polymers, also known as ‘Poloxamers’ consisting of triblock's (polyethylene oxide (PEO)–polypropylene oxide (PPO)–polyethylene oxide (PEO)), that exhibit micelle formation and gelation. Owing to their fascinating characteristics, pluronics has also suggested that they play a role in biomedical applications, such as drug delivery systems, tissue regeneration scaffolders, and biosurfactants. Among pluronics, F-68 and F-127 are United States (U.S.) FDA-approved classes of pluronics that have been extensively used as materials for living bodies. Likewise, other advanced nanosystems can also be exploited for effective drug delivery.

This Special Issue aims to explore cutting-edge carrier-based nanomedicines or nanogels and their potential for effective drug delivery. We aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the design, development, and characterization of advanced carrier-based formulation strategies and their applications for effective drug delivery (targeting delivery, immunotherapy, gene delivery) based on in vitro and in vivo evaluations. This Special Issue seeks to highlight innovative strategies for effective drug delivery through advanced formulations of nano-systems. 

This Special Issue calls for original research and review articles to provide novel insights based on advanced nanosystems for the effective delivery of therapeutics and genes, exploiting targeting therapy, combination therapy, or immunotherapy. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, the aforementioned areas of research.
