Germplasm Resources and Varietal Identification in Grapevine

Dear colleagues,

Vines have great economic, cultural and ecological importance in the Mediterranean basin and in the world. This crop has a great genetic diversity, but there is still a lack of information on available resources at the expense of the effectiveness of diversity conservation and maximization efforts in core collections, as well as the genetic basis of the performance traits needed to cope with the challenges of climate change. An in-depth understanding of this diversity is now aided by advances in plant genomic technologies, from sequencing to genome assembly, genotyping and high throughput phenotyping, representing a great opportunity for the optimal use of genetic resources.

We invite you to contribute your research to this Special Issue of Plants with articles on Vitis germplasm variability, genotyping, varietal identification and germplasm collections to obtain an overview of the current state of this field of study for effective future exploitation.
