Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The healthcare industry provides goods and services that are used to treat and control diseases but also generates waste. The waste generated by this industry affects the environment and community health. Healthcare service waste is an environmental concern requiring proper management and the adoption of suitable treatment strategies before its final disposal to reduce its harmful impacts.

It is also known that the healthcare services industry needs to more actively engage in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as “responsible consumption and production”, “good health and well-being”, and the “reduction of inequalities”.

In the healthcare services industry, there is no culture or group dedicated to ensuring sustainability in strategic decisions. For example, the buildings and physical structures used by the healthcare services industry are energy-intensive.

Academia and the market seek to respond to emerging global challenges by reducing waste and improving the performance of the supply chain organizations in the healthcare services industry.

Effective and comprehensive sustainability assessments play a critical role in this area, and there is a growing number of studies discussing constructs, dimensions, frameworks, and/or indicators for understanding and evaluating the performance of the healthcare services industry supply chain. The first efforts to measure the sustainability of these supply chain components have been attributed to the growing use of "green building certification systems" dedicated to healthcare services. Subsequently, systems dedicated to the sustainability assessment of healthcare-focused organizations have gradually emerged and developed through different approaches, including sustainable digital transformation.

In the context of seeking global solutions, inter- and transdisciplinary approaches should be emphasized, and these should involve and integrate professionals from various fields such as engineers, economists, and professionals from natural and health sciences.

The Special Issue "Green Logistics, Supply Chains, and Organizational Management in Sustainable Health Services" aims to gather reflections, findings, solutions, and models, positioning itself as an effective contribution to the theory and practices of sustainability in the healthcare services industry.
