Molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is a developmental enamel defect that poses significant challenges to achieving long-term restorative success. The aim of this bibliometric review is to map the research landscape on treatment strategies for teeth affected by MIH and to provide insights that will guide future research and clinical practice. A comprehensive search of the Web of Science (WoS) and PubMed/MEDLINE databases was conducted for studies on MIH treatment published between 2014 and 2024, using defined keywords related to MIH treatment. Eligible studies were analyzed using VOSviewer, Bibliometrix R-tool, and Carrot2 software to assess publication trends, authorship, citations, and thematic focus. The comprehensive database search of the databases retrieved 933 studies, of which 230 met the inclusion criteria. A notable increase in publications was observed from 2018 to 2022, accompanied by a substantial rise in citations from 2019 onwards. Most of the research is concentrated in pediatric dentistry journals. Key topics include “children”, “resin infiltration”, “resin composite”, and “management/performance”, with an increasing emphasis on innovative and conservative approaches. Although international collaboration remains limited, Brazil (18.7%), Germany (15.5%), and England/Italy (7.7%) lead in research output. This highlights the need for international collaboration and the development of standardized, effective treatment protocols. Full article

The gut microbiota of red deer is a topic of growing interest, particularly with regard to its ecological and physiological importance. The diversity and composition of these microbial communities is influenced by environmental variables, diet and interactions with other organisms in their habitat. Fecal samples were collected in 10 hunting reserves in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, Italy. In each hunting reserve, five individual samples were taken from the ground for a total of 50 samples. After DNA extraction, the V3–V4 16s rRNA regions were sequenced. The raw data were uploaded to QIIME2 and taxonomic annotation was performed. Significant differences between the deer sampled in the hunting reserves (p < 0.05) were calculated for the phyla Firmicutes and Cyanobacteriota and for the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroidota, especially for the mountain reserves in the north and northeast compared to the reserves in the hills in the west. Shannon and Chao1 alpha diversity indices varied between reserves (p < 0.01) and the Bray–Curtis beta diversity index also indicated differences in microbiota between hunting reserves. The different habitats and vegetation of the reserves could explain the differences observed. Understanding the dynamics of the microbiota of red deer provides important information about their health and feeding behavior and also has far-reaching implications for species conservation. Resistive switching (RS) phenomena are nowadays one of the most studied topics in the area of microelectronics. It can be observed in Metal–Insulator–Metal (MIM) structures that are the basis of resistive switching random-access memories (RRAMs). In the case of commercial use of RRAMs, it is beneficial that the applied materials would have to be compatible with Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) technology. Fabricating methods of these materials can determine their stoichiometry and structural composition, which can have a detrimental impact on the electrical performance of manufactured devices. In this study, we present the influence of the Ar/N2 ratio during reactive magnetron sputtering of titanium nitride (TiN) electrodes on the resistive switching behavior of MIM devices. We used silicon oxide (SiOx) as a dielectric layer, which was characterized by the same properties in all fabricated MIM structures. The composition of TiN thin layers was controlled by tuning the Ar/N2 ratio during the deposition process. The fabricated conductive materials were characterized in terms of chemical and structural properties employing X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Structural characterization revealed that increasing the Ar content during the reactive sputtering process affects the crystallite size of the deposited TiN layer. The resulting crystallite sizes ranged from 8 Å to 757.4 Å. The I-V measurements of fabricated devices revealed that tuning the Ar/N2 ratio during the deposition of TiN electrodes affects the RS behavior. Our work shows the importance of controlling the stoichiometry and structural parameters of electrodes on resistive switching phenomena. Full article

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) represents a major healthcare problem, colonizing more than half of the population worldwide. Usually acquired during childhood, it has a significant impact on human health. After forty years of extensive research, there are aspects of the complex H. pylori–human organism interplay that require further investigation. A comprehensive review was conducted after an extensive literature search in the PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, and EMBASE databases concerning H. pylori and human microbiota reports. Although the exact nature of H. pylori’s relation with the human microbiome remains elusive, its presence as well as its eradication treatment are associated with the alteration of bacterial communities’ composition not only in the gastric microenvironment but also in all digestive tract levels, with particular changes in both children and adults. Understanding microbiota composition is a step towards personalized medicine. Although the current literature on pediatric patients related to this topic is scarce, the available positive results reported in adult studies encourage pediatric research on microbiota manipulation, promising beneficial outcomes. The aim of this study is to provide a systematic account of structural discourse markers operating at a conversational macro-level in German Palliative Care interactions, focusing on their frequency, distribution, co-occurrence, and speaker-group-specific usage. By combining qualitative approaches from conversation analysis and interactional linguistics with quantitative methods from corpus linguistics, discourse markers are analyzed together as a functional category from multiple analytical perspectives to enhance the overall understanding of the use of discourse markers. The analysis reveals a functional distribution across different transition points in conversation: Whereas the German so most frequently appears in openings and transitions to non-verbal activities, gut and okay predominate in topic shifts and conversation closings. However, gut and okay differ in their composition of discursive functions, although discourse structuring emerges as the second most frequent function in both cases, an observation that stands in contrast to the continued neglect of this function in standard dictionary entries. The institutional asymmetries inherent in medical interactions are reflected in the finding that both doctors and caregivers use significantly more structural discourse markers than patients and their relatives. Differences between physicians’ and caregivers’ use of discourse markers can be attributed to their different professional roles and communicative responsibilities. Full article

Blast mitigation of structures is an important research topic due to increasing intentional and accidental human-induced threats and hazards. This research area is essential to building capabilities in sustaining structural protection, site planning, protective design efficiency, occupant safety, and response and recovery plans. This paper investigates experimental tests and finite element analysis (FEM) of thin A36 steel sheets subjected to blast. Six field blast tests were performed at standoff distances of 300 mm and 500 mm. The explosive charges comprised 334 g of bare Composition B, and the steel sheets were 2 mm thick. The experimental results, derived from the analysis of high-speed camera recordings of the blast events, were compared with FEM simulations conducted using Abaqus®/Explicit version 6.10. Three constitutive material models were considered in these simulations. First, the FEM simulation results were compared with experimental results. It was shown that the FEM analysis provided reliable results and was proven to be robust and cost-effective. Second, an extensive set of 460 additional numerical simulations was carried out as a parametric study involving varying standoff distances and steel sheet thicknesses. The results and methodologies presented in this paper offer valuable and original insights for engineers and researchers aiming to predict damage to steel structures during real detonation events and to design blast-resistant structures. Bare land exposed by glacier retreat provides new opportunities for ecosystem development. Investigating primary vegetation succession in deglaciated regions can provide significant insights for ecological restoration, particularly for future climate change scenarios. Nonetheless, research on this topic in the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau has been exceedingly limited. This study aimed to investigate vegetation succession in the deglaciated area of the Zepu glacier during the Little Ice Age in southeastern Tibet. Quadrat surveys were performed on arboreal communities, and trends in vegetation change were assessed utilizing multi-year (1986–2024) remote sensing data. The findings indicate that vegetation succession in the Zepu glacier deglaciated area typically adheres to a sequence of bare land–shrub–tree, divided into four stages: (1) shrub (species include Larix griffithii Mast., Hippophae rhamnoides subsp. yunnanensis Rousi, Betula utilis D. Don, and Populus pseudoglauca C. Wang & P. Y. Fu); (2) broadleaf forest primarily dominated by Hippophae rhamnoides subsp. yunnanensis Rousi; (3) mixed coniferous–broadleaf forest with Hippophae rhamnoides subsp. yunnanensis Rousi and Populus pseudoglauca C. Wang & P. Y. Fu as the dominant species; and (4) mixed coniferous–broadleaf forest dominated by Picea likiangensis (Franch.) E. Pritz. Soil depth and NDVI both increase with succession. Species diversity is significantly higher in the third stage compared to other successional stages. In addition, soil moisture content is significantly greater in the broadleaf-dominated communities than in the conifer-dominated communities. An analysis of NDVI from 1986 to 2024 reveals an overall positive trend in vegetation recovery in the area, with 93% of the area showing significant vegetation increase. Temperature is the primary controlling factor for this recovery, showing a positive correlation with vegetation cover. The results indicate that Key ecological indicators—including species composition, diversity, NDVI, soil depth, and soil moisture content—exhibit stage-specific patterns, reflecting distinct phases of primary succession. These findings enhance our comprehension of vegetation succession in deglaciated areas and their influencing factors in deglaciated areas, providing theoretical support for vegetation restoration in climate change. Wood polymer composites (WPCs) represent a rapidly growing class of sustainable materials, formed by combining lignocellulosic fibers with thermoplastic or thermoset polymeric matrices. This review summarizes the state of the art in WPC development, emphasizing the use of recyclable (or recycled) and biodegradable polymers as matrix materials. The integration of waste wood particles into the production of WPCs addresses global environmental challenges, including plastic pollution and deforestation, by offering an alternative to conventional wood-based and petroleum-based products. Lighting Systems (LSs) are a key component of modern cities. Across the years, thousands of articles have been published on this topic; nevertheless, a map of the state of the art of the extant literature is lacking. The present review reports on an analysis of the network of the co-occurrences of the authors’ keywords from 12,148 Scopus-indexed articles on LSs published between 1995 and 2024. This review addresses the following research questions: (RQ1) What are the major topics explored by scholars in connection with LSs within the 1995–2024 time frame? (RQ2) How do they group together? The investigation leveraged VOSviewer, an open-source software largely used for performing bibliometric analyses. The number of thematic clusters returned by VOSviewer was determined by the value of the minimum number of occurrences needed for the authors’ keywords to be admitted into the business analysis. If such a number is not properly chosen, the consequence is a set of clusters that do not represent meaningful patterns of the input dataset. In the present study, to overcome this issue, the threshold value balanced the score of four independent clustering validity indices against the authors’ judgment of a meaningful partition of the input dataset. In addition, our review delved into the impact that the use/non-use of a thesaurus of the authors’ keywords had on the number and composition of the thematic clusters returned by VOSviewer and, ultimately, on how this choice affected the correctness of the interpretation of the clusters. The study adhered to a well-known protocol, whose implementation is reported in detail. Thus, the workflow is transparent and replicable. Full article

Leishmaniasis is an infectious disease common in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. This study aimed to develop a topical meglumine antimoniate gel (MA-gel) for the treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis. The MA-gel was characterized in terms of morphology, pH, swelling, porosity, rheology, and thermal properties by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Biopharmaceutical evaluation included in vitro drug release and ex vivo skin permeation. Safety was evaluated through biomechanical skin property measurements and cytotoxicity in HaCaT and RAW 267 cells. Leishmanicidal activity was tested against promastigotes and amastigotes of Leishmania infantum, and in silico studies were conducted to explore possible mechanisms of action. The composition of the MA-gel included 30% MA, 20% Pluronic® F127 (P407), and 50% water. Scanning electron microscopy revealed a sponge-like and porous internal structure of the MA-gel. This formula exhibited a pH of 5.45, swelling at approximately 12 min, and a porosity of 85.07%. The DSC showed that there was no incompatibility between MA and P407. Drug release followed a first-order kinetic profile, with 22.11 µg/g/cm2 of the drug retained in the skin and no permeation into the receptor compartment. The MA-gel showed no microbial growth, no cytotoxicity in keratinocytes, and no skin damage. The IC50 for promastigotes and amastigotes of L. infantum were 3.56 and 23.11 µg/mL, respectively. In silico studies suggested that MA could act on three potential therapeutic targets according to its binding mode. The MA-gel demonstrated promising physicochemical, safety, and antiparasitic properties, supporting its potential as a topical treatment for cutaneous leishmaniasis. Full article

The utilisation of edible insects for human nutrition is a long-standing practice in many parts of the globe, and is being gradually introduced into countries without an entomophagic tradition as well. These unconventional sources of protein of animal origin have arisen as a sustainable alternative to other animal protein sources, such as meat. This review intends to present the compilation of data in the scientific literature on the chemical composition and nutritional value of the bee brood of A. mellifera species and subspecies as edible foods. For this, a comprehensive search of the scientific literature was carried out using the databases ScienceDirect, Scopus, Pub-Med, BOn, and SciELO. Appropriate keywords were used for the search to reach the research works that addressed the topics of the review. The results showed that bee brood has considerable quantities of protein, fat and carbohydrates. The most abundant amino acids are leucine and lysine (these two being essential amino acids) and aspartic acid, glutamic acid, and proline (these three being non-essential amino acids). As for the fatty acids, bee broods contain approximately equal fractions of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, while the polyunsaturated fatty acids are negligible. The dietary minerals present in higher quantities are potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium, and the most abundant vitamins are vitamin C and niacin; choline is also present, although it is not a true vitamin. Although bee brood from A. mellifera has potential for human consumption as a nutrient-rich food, there are still many aspects that need to be further studied in the future, such as safety and hazards linked to possible regular consumption. Background: Cardiovascular diseases, particularly hypertension, and gastrointestinal disorders represent major public health concerns in Mexico. Although a range of pharmacological treatments exists, their use is associated with adverse effects, highlighting the need for safer therapeutic alternatives. Species of the Ipomoea genus are widely employed in Mexican traditional medicine (MTM) for their purgative, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and sedative properties. Particularly, Ipomoea purpurea is traditionally used as a diuretic and purgative; its leaves and stems are applied topically for their anti-inflammatory and soothing effects. This study aimed to determine their phytochemical composition and to evaluate the associated vasodilatory activity, modulatory effects on intestinal smooth-muscle motility, and toxicological effects of the methanolic (ME-Ip) and dichloromethane (DE-Ip) extracts obtained from the aerial parts of I. purpurea. Methods: The phytochemical composition of the ME-Ip and DE-Ip extracts of I. purpurea was assessed using UPLC-QTOF-MS and GC-MS, respectively. For both extracts, the vasodilatory activity and effects on intestinal smooth muscle were investigated using ex vivo models incorporating isolated rat aorta and ileum, respectively, whereas acute toxicity was evaluated in vivo. Results: Phytochemical analysis revealed, for the first time, the presence of two glycosylated flavonoids within the Ipomoea genus; likewise, constituents with potential anti-inflammatory activity were detected. The identified compounds in I. purpurea extracts may contribute to the vasodilatory, biphasic, and purgative effects observed in this species. The EC50 values for the vasodilatory effects of the methanolic (ME-Ip) and dichloromethane (DE-Ip) extracts were 0.80 and 0.72 mg/mL, respectively. In the initial phase of the experiments on isolated ileal tissues, both extracts induced a spasmodic (contractile) effect on basal motility, with ME-Ip exhibiting higher potency (EC50 = 27.11 μg/mL) compared to DE-Ip (EC50 = 1765 μg/mL). In contrast, during the final phase of the experiments, both extracts demonstrated a spasmolytic effect, with EC50 values of 0.43 mg/mL for ME-Ip and 0.34 mg/mL for DE-Ip. In addition, both extracts exhibited low levels of acute toxicity. Conclusions: The phytochemical profile and the vasodilatory and biphasic effects of the I. purpurea extracts explain, in part, the use of I. purpurea in MTM. The absence of acute toxic effects constitutes a preliminary step in the toxicological safety assessment of I. purpurea extracts and demonstrates their potential for the development of phytopharmaceutic agents as adjuvants for the treatment of cardiovascular and gastrointestinal disorders. Plastic (P) and microplastic (MP) pollution in marine and freshwater environments is an increasingly urgent issue that needs to be addressed at many levels. The Seabin (an easily operated and cost-effective floating debris collection device) can help clean up buoyant plastic debris in calm waters while monitoring water pollution. A Seabin was used to conduct a comparative analysis of plastic and microplastic concentrations in northern Lake Garda (Italy) during peak and low tourist seasons. The composition of the litter was further investigated using Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The analysis showed a decreased mean amount of plastic from summer (32.5 mg/m3) to autumn (17.6 mg/m3), with an average number of collected microplastics per day of 45 ± 15 and 15 ± 3, respectively. Packaging and foam accounted for 92.2% of the recognized plastic waste products. The material composition of the plastic mass (442 pieces, 103.0 g) was mainly identified as polypropylene (PP, 47.1%) and polyethylene (PE, 21.8%). Moreover, 313 microplastics (approximately 2.0 g) were counted with average weight in the range of 1–16 mg. A case study of selected plastic debris was also conducted. Spectroscopic, microscopic, and thermal analysis of specimens provided insights into how aging affects plastics in this specific environment. The purpose of this study was to establish a baseline for further research on the topic, to provide guidelines for similar analyses from a multidisciplinary perspective, to monitor plastic pollution in Lake Garda, and to inform policy makers, scientists, and the public. The present investigation highlights the importance of evaluating the painting process on a composite material, namely the Kevlar validation process. Kevlar, a synthetic fabric, is well known for its remarkable strength and durability. Kevlar is used in the construction of spaceships and airplanes because it is lightweight and five times stronger than steel. This paper will present the methods for measuring paint layer thickness in accordance with EN ISO 2808:2019, confirming that organic coatings have fully cured, and coating thickness will be measured using magnetic currents. This study will also address the topic of determining liquid resistance. The protocols for manufacturing the Kevlar specimen are in accordance with ISO 2812-2:2018 using the water immersion method and structural testing. The investigation also demonstrates the progress of the framing test following immersion in Airbus PTP metal test tubes. Full article

Developing and utilizing capture and storage technologies for CO2 has become a critical research topic due to the significant greenhouse effect caused by excessive CO2 emissions. A conventional physical absorption process for CO2 capture is polyethylene glycol dimethyl ether (NHD); however, its limited application range is caused by its poor absorption of CO2 at low pressures. In this work, the CO2 absorption of NHD was enhanced by combining NHD with a novel chemical absorbent 2-methylimidazole (2-mIm)-ethylene glycol (EG) solution to improve CO2 absorption. Viscosity and CO2 solubility were examined in various compositions. The CO2 solubility in the mixed solution was found to be at maximum when the mass fractions of NHD, 2-mIm, and EG were 20%, 40%, and 40%, respectively. In comparison to pure NHD, the solubility of CO2 in this mixed solution at 30 °C and 0.5 MPa increased by 161.2%, and the desorption heat was less than 30 kJ/mol. The complex solution exhibits high selectivity and favorable regeneration performance in the short term. However, it is more sensitive to moisture content. The results of this study can provide important data to support the construction of new low-energy solvent systems and the development of novel CO2 capture processes. Full article
