Based on self-determination theory and the “environment–cognition–behavior” analysis framework, harmonious work passion is introduced into the research system to systematically explore the mechanism and internal path of inclusive leadership on employees’ creative territory behavior. Combined with work autonomy and status competition motivation, a three-way interaction model is constructed to reveal the boundary conditions under which inclusive leadership affects employees’ creative territory behavior. Through situational experiments (Study 1) and multi-time questionnaire surveys (Study 2), the results showed that harmonious work passion mediates the negative impact of inclusive leadership and creative territory behavior; when work autonomy is strong and employees’ status-competitive motivation is high, inclusive leadership has the most significant effect on creative territory behavior through harmonious work passion. The interaction among inclusive leadership, work autonomy, and status-competitive motivation is significant. The purpose of this study is to provide practical guidance for managers to reduce employees’ negative behaviors by optimizing the work environment and incentive strategies. Full article

The changes in adolescents’ visions for the future are important to adolescents’ developmental trajectories, motivation, and educational outcomes, yet understudied. This study examined the change in possible selves and its association with grit during school closure and life interruption during COVID-19. We conducted a school-based longitudinal survey among 1577 students (Mage = 13.05, SD = 0.86) from 12 secondary schools at the start and end of an academic year prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic with a 9-month interval. Demographic, grit, socioeconomic status (SES), self-control, and possible selves were measured. Paired t-tests indicated a significant decrease in academic possible selves and strategies. Hierarchical regression analysis results show that participants with higher grit scores reported higher academic and life possible selves; in particular, the effect of grit–perseverance was stronger than grit–passion after controlling self-control. SES moderated the effect of grit–passion on academic possible selves. The current longitudinal study provides important implications for education and youth social work practice for young people growing up with the influence of the pandemic. Full article

Focusing on the legend of Phaedra and Hippolytus as developed in Euripides and Seneca and especially in Racine’s Phèdre and taking into account as well its further development in works by Camillo Boito, Luchino Visconti, and Yukio Mishima, I make the following arguments: (1) Contrary to many theologians and philosophers of love, a pathological form of love that issues in murder and suicide should not be regarded as unworthy of serious attention. Racine’s tragedy provides a catharsis for universal experiences of unrequited love and jealousy, a major human phenomenon. (2) Contrary to Paul Valéry, Phèdre’s love cannot be called merely animal, since the analytical insight she develops into her morbid passion carries tremendous moral force and lies at the origin of the European psychological novel, as launched by Madame de La Fayette a year later. (3) Contrary to François Mauriac, even if she is a heroine of desire or concupiscence rather than of “true love” (in contrast to the relatively innocent affections of Hippolyte and Aricie), the incredible beauty of her language resists such an easy categorization. (4) Study of concrete presentations of “love” in literature confirms that the meaning and use of this word is marked by an irreducible pluralism. Philosophical and theological analysis of love has to come to terms with this. (5) The role of a work of art, in crystallizing archetypical emotions and situations in a way that carries authority, is to provide the middle ground between the abstractions of philosophy on the one hand and the uncontrollable diversity of the empirical on the other. Even psychologies or sociologies of love, which claim to be close to the concrete data, need to be anchored in and corrected by the special concrete vision that only great literature can bring. This article explores the emotional transformations of teachers since the pandemic, shifting from idealised passion for their profession to a more balanced, self-preserving approach to their work and mental well-being. Through four case studies of teachers from Hong Kong, Australia, and France, this paper examines how teachers navigate emotional wisdom in response to trauma and burnout and how such wisdom informs their ability to recognise when to prioritise their mental health over job prospects. The idea of disillusioned transformation will be explored: when teachers who are initially invested in a set of ideals in their roles become disillusioned and disengaged but through which find emotional balance and the resilience towards new sources of professional fulfilment. Central to transformative learning theory, this study highlights how trauma (moral injury, systemic trauma) and emotional wisdom contribute to teachers’ critical reflection and self-preservation. This article seeks to delineate the intersection between emotional wisdom, aesthetic emotions, and trauma recovery and to understand how teachers transform their professional identity in response to emotional distress, fostering a more sustainable and healthy approach to teaching. The transformation of organizational platformization provides a technological path and collaborative framework for sustainable development. In this context, platform-based human resource management (HRM) has attracted a lot of attention in academia and the industry, but there is a lack of in-depth research on what dimensions are included in the practice of platform-based HRM and how to measure it. Firstly, this study adopts a theory-based approach to decompose platform-based HRM practices into six functional dimensions, namely “adaptive employee recruitment”, “autonomous job design”, “empowering employee development”, “self-managed compensation management”, “team-based performance management” and “facilitating development planning”. Secondly, based on the scale development procedure, a measurement scale for platform-based HRM practices containing 22 items was developed and passed the reliability test. Finally, the paper conducted a predictive test of the scale with passion for harmonious work as the distal predictor variable and sense of self-determination as the proximal predictor variable, which confirmed the scale’s good predictability. This paper provides a quantifiable tool for related research on HRM in platform-based organizations and offers theoretical guidance and a reference model for building HRM empowerment systems in platform-based enterprises. At the same time, it also provides ideas and references for enterprises to practice platform-based human resources and achieve sustainable development. Full article

Given the significant impact of Generative AI (GenAI) in the workplace, there are surprisingly few empirical studies examining how employees’ GenAI awareness shapes differently oriented job crafting behaviors. In organizations, understanding this is important because GenAI is unlikely to fully replace employees; instead, it requires them to adopt adaptive strategies to work alongside GenAI. If employees engage in avoidance crafting behavior, it could have negative consequences for the organization. Based on sensemaking theory, we develop a theoretical model to explore how employees’ GenAI awareness affects their job crafting behavior, as well as the mediating mechanisms and boundary conditions of its influence. Using self-evaluation data from 316 employees at three time points, the results of our hypothesis testing reveal that when employees perceive high internal Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), their GenAI awareness triggers harmonious work passion and leads to approach job crafting; conversely, when employees perceive high external Corporate Social Responsibility, their GenAI awareness triggers obsessive work passion and leads to avoidance job crafting. Finally, the theoretical and empirical implications of our findings are discussed. Full article

Architecture as a STEM career presents a promising yet challenging path for women pursuing professional growth in the field, as they remain under-represented, particularly in leadership roles and professional practice, despite their increasing presence in architectural education. This study investigates the experiences, motivations, and challenges faced by women in architecture in the educational setting of Nigeria. Using a quantitative research approach, data were collected from 137 respondents through structured questionnaires, representing a 97.93% response rate. The findings reveal that passion for design and creativity (73.7%) was the predominant motivation for women choosing architecture. While 80.5% of respondents reported experiencing or observing gender-related challenges, these were not ranked as primary barriers when specific obstacles were identified; instead, financial constraints, limited resource access, and work–life balance emerged as the most significant challenges. Remarkably, 89.5% of participants expressed satisfaction with architecture as a career choice, with no reported dissatisfaction. Creativity (28%), continuous learning (24.2%), and societal impact (20%) were found to be the most rewarding aspects of their architectural careers. Statistical analyses revealed no significant association between academic level and career satisfaction or between institution attended and experiences of gender-related challenges. The correlation analysis demonstrated that intrinsic motivators like passion for design have stronger relationships with career satisfaction than extrinsic factors like financial stability or family influence. These findings contribute to understanding women’s experiences in architectural education in Nigeria and have implications for educational institutions, professional organizations, and policymakers seeking to enhance women’s participation and advancement in architecture. The research highlights the importance of addressing structural barriers while nurturing the creative and professional aspects that draw women to the field. Full article

The development of students’ skills, abilities, competences and knowledge is the basis for sustainable socio-economic development. Today we live in a world that is in continuous change, both economically and socially, which also determines a change in the requirements on the labor market and therefore graduates and higher education institutions must continuously adapt to these changes. Thus, higher education institutions must adapt their teaching strategies and educational offer, while students must develop new skills and competences. The main purpose of this article is to analyze the extent to which the information, skills, attitudes and competences acquired by graduates of physical education and sports faculties during their years of study influence their standard of living, job satisfaction and confidence. To achieve this objective, we asked the following research questions: 1. To what extent do the information, skills, abilities and competences acquired by students during their years of study influence their income level, standard of living, job satisfaction and level of confidence in the workplace? 2. What is the self-perception of students regarding the information, skills, abilities and knowledge that students possess? 3. What is the perception of employers regarding the information, skills, abilities and knowledge that students possess? 4. To what extent are there differences between students’ self-perception and employers’ perception regarding the information, skills, abilities and knowledge that students possess? Thus, data were collected through two questionnaires, one distributed among 333 graduates from physical education and sports faculties in Romania and one to 11 employers working in the sports industry in Romania. The data obtained from the students were analyzed using SPSS 24, and it was found that there is a small correlation between the information, skills, competences and knowledge acquired during the years of study and the standard of living, job satisfaction and the confidence in one’s own ability to successfully perform tasks at work. Among the skills, abilities and aptitudes that students consider themselves to excel in are a passion for sports, the continuous desire for improvement, conscientiousness, teamwork, openness to new things and respect for hierarchies and regulations. At the opposite end, graduates consider that they need to improve their public speaking skills, management skills, their ability to communicate in a foreign language, their ability to sell themselves and their ability to manage a project. This article critically examines the star persona of Lola Flores, an iconic Spanish flamenco artist, within the historical and political context of Francoist Spain (1939–1975). It argues that Flores’s carefully constructed star image not only persisted into post-Franco Spain but also served as a covert vehicle for the continued propagation of National-Falangist Catholic ideology. The article primarily focuses on two major productions: the book Lola en carne viva. Memorias de Lola Flores (1990) and the television series El coraje de vivir (1994). Both portray a linear and cohesive version of her life from childhood to her later years, carefully curated to defend and rehabilitate her image. While many view Flores as a self-made artist, the article argues that her star persona was a deliberate construct—shaped by Suevia Films, a major Francoist-era film studio, and media narratives that aligned her with traditional gender roles, Catholic values, and Spanish nationalism. Despite emerging in post-Franco Spain, Flores’s narrative does not mark a rupture from the ideological frameworks of the past. Instead, it repackages Francoist values—particularly those surrounding patriarchal gender norms, suffering, and the glorification of sacrifice—to ensure her continued relevance. Suevia Films (1951) played a significant role in shaping her star persona as a symbol of Spanish folklore, aligning her with Francoist ideals of nation, Catholic morality, and submissive femininity. Her image was used to promote Spain internationally as a welcoming and culturally rich destination. Her persona fit within Franco’s broader strategy of using flamenco and folklore to attract foreign tourism while maintaining tight ideological control over entertainment. Flores’s life is framed as a rags-to-riches story, which reinforces Social Spencerist ideology (a social Darwinist perspective) that hard work and endurance lead to success, rather than acknowledging systemic oppression under Francoism. Her personal struggles—poverty, romantic disappointments, accusations of collaboration with the Franco regime, and tax evasion—are framed as necessary trials that strengthen her character. This aligns with the Catholic ideal of redemptive suffering, reinforcing her status as the mater dolorosa (Sorrowful Mother) figure. This article highlights the contradictions in Flores’s gender performance—while she embodied passion and sensuality in flamenco, her offstage identity conformed to the submissive, self-sacrificing woman idealized by the Francoist Sección Femenina (SF). Even in her personal life, Flores’s narrative aligns with Francoist values—her father’s bar, La Fe de Pedro Flores, symbolizes the fusion of religion, nationalism, and traditional masculinity. Tico Medina plays a key role by framing Lola en carne viva as an “authentic” and unfiltered account. His portrayal is highly constructed, acting as her “defense lawyer” to counter criticisms. Flores’s autobiography is monologic—it suppresses alternative perspectives, ensuring that her version of events remains dominant and unquestioned. Rather than acknowledging structural oppression, the narrative glorifies suffering as a path to resilience, aligning with both Catholic doctrine and Francoist propaganda. The article ultimately deconstructs Lola Flores’s autobiographical myth, demonstrating that her public persona—both onstage and offstage—was a strategic construction that perpetuated Francoist ideals well beyond the dictatorship. While her image has been celebrated as a symbol of Spanish cultural identity, it also functioned as a tool for maintaining patriarchal and nationalist ideologies under the guise of entertainment. Work capacity depends on many factors, including the age and health status of the employee, but also on personal characteristics and attitudes, such as reduced tolerance of unfavorable working conditions (Work Annoyance, WA), excessive commitment to work (Overcommitment, OC), passion for work (Work Engagement, WE), and social interactions (Social Capital, SC). A total of 1309 workers who underwent a medical examination at work completed questionnaires on work attitudes and assessed their work ability using the Work Ability Score (WAS). The relationship between variables expressing work attitudes and WAS was studied using hierarchical linear regression and moderation analyses. WA is associated with low WAS values; SC is a positive predictor of WAS and moderates the effect of WA on WAS. OC reduces work ability, while Vigor and Dedication, components of WE, have a strong positive effect on work ability. To improve the work ability of employees, employers and managers should improve social relations in the workplace and discourage overcommitment. A positive working environment can increase engagement and avoid triggers of work annoyance. Full article

Caffeic, syringic, and protocatechuic acids are phenolic acids with important antioxidant activity. In this work we studied how the oxidative stability of rosehip, hemp, and passion fruit oils improves with the addition of these antioxidant acids. We used the BQC-Redox System method to measure the antioxidant activity of oils and phenolic acids, and compared these results with other methods described in the literature. In addition, principal components analysis was used to show the relationship between oxidant activity and fatty acids in the oils studied. The results show, in most cases, the improvement of oxidative stability of oils by addition of phenolic acids, and that oxidative stability is determined by the molecular structure of phenolic acids, solubility of oils, the composition of oils in fatty acids, and the influence of temperature in stabilizing phenolic acids and oils. In addition, we support that the BQC-Redox System (BRS) is a suitable method to measure antioxidant activity. Full article

In this paper, I investigate what role religious emotions, passions, and prayer may play in what may be called the religion of the heart in early Syrian theology, especially in the several works of ’Aphrahaṭ, Saint Ephrem, and the anonymous collection titled the Book of Steps, all from the fourth century. In the original Syriac sources, one may see how in this vast corpus, religious emotions and prayer act as a corridor channeling the believer’s striving for the disclosure of the mysteries surrounding God. It will also be shown that while these sources advocate in unison for the heart’s function in connecting the believer with God, their respective interpretive theological contexts are different. These points are substantiated by virtue of a number of citations from the original texts. Full article

From Passion to Burnout: The Role of Work–Family Conflict and Job Satisfaction in the Workplace

In the modern workplace, understanding the dynamics of work passion and its consequences on employee well-being is crucial. This quantitative study, conducted with Portuguese workers, seeks to examine and validate the Dualistic Model of Passion, which distinguishes between harmonious and obsessive passion, while also exploring the intricate relationships among work passion, job satisfaction, work–family conflict, and burnout. Using mediation analyses and structural equation modeling (SEM), a convenience sample of 326 participants (169 men and 157 women), aged between 19 and 69 years (M = 41.31, SD = 10.52), was analyzed to uncover how different types of work passion—obsessive and harmonious—impact professional outcomes and well-being. The findings reveal that obsessive passion for work is a significant predictor of work–family conflict, which, in turn, escalates the risk of burnout. In contrast, harmonious passion is positively associated with increased job satisfaction and acts as a buffer against the negative effects of work–family conflict. Notably, contrary to initial assumptions, obsessive passion does not directly precipitate burnout. Mediation analyses confirmed that work–family conflict plays a key role in this process, while SEM results demonstrated strong model fit indices, reinforcing its relevance and applicability in organizational settings. These results offer crucial insights for both theoretical advancement and practical applications, highlighting the importance of fostering a work environment that nurtures harmonious passion. By doing so, organizations can mitigate conflict and burnout while promoting higher levels of job satisfaction among employees. Full article

Predictors of Young Adult Women’s Psychological Well-Being in Romantic Relationships

Psychological well-being is the experience of fewer negative emotions, such as feelings of loneliness, depression, and low mood, and more positive emotions, such as taking pride in one’s life, being enthusiastic about one’s life, and having a highly satisfying purpose in life. In other words, it describes an individual who is happy and free from psychopathology. Psychological well-being in romantic relationships is influenced by several factors, such as empathy, relationship stability, and quality of sex life. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between psychological well-being and empathy, quality of sexual life, love, relationship intimacy, and relationship stability among women in romantic relationships. This study included 415 female participants aged 23–45 who had been in a romantic relationship for at least 12 months. Data were collected using the Sociodemographic Data Form, the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS), the Basic Empathy Scale (BES), the Sexual Quality of Life Scale—Women’s Form (SQLS), the Relationship Stability Scale (RSS), the Passionate Love Scale (PLS) and the Romantic Relationship Closeness Scale (RRCS). Independent group t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson correlation analysis, and regression analysis were used to analyse the data. The analyses found that the variables that predicted psychological well-being were the relationship satisfaction sub-dimension of the relationship stability scale, quality of sexual life, empathy, and having children. In addition, correlational analysis revealed that empathy, sexual quality of life, intimacy in romantic relationships, relationship satisfaction, and relationship attachment were significantly positively correlated with psychological well-being. In terms of demographic information, it was found that scores for evaluating options in the relationship increased as education level increased; scores for investing in the relationship increased as education level decreased; passionate love was more common among working women; having children increased psychological well-being but decreased intimacy in romantic relationships; and quality of sexual life increased as seriousness in the relationship increased. The results of this study may be useful to psychologists and psychiatrists in their studies of female clients, to sociologists and public health specialists in their studies of women, and to policy makers in determining public health policies. Music Drama as a Christian Parable: Mozart’s Idomeneo

This article discusses Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera Idomeneo: Re di Creta (1781, to a text by Giambattista Varesco) as a Christian parable in the historical context of its genesis. Mozart’s Idomeneo is based on a short episode in François Fénelon’s Télémaque, but also on Antoine Danchet’s adaptation of this episode for the theater in his tragédie lyrique Idoménée (1712; set to music by André Campra). In important aspects, Mozart’s Idomeneo changed the narrative with a marked independence of Fénelon as well as Danchet. In recent scholarship, important new information has come to light concerning Mozart’s composition of the Oracle scene, constituting the dénouement of the music drama. Based partly on these new insights, I attempt to provide a picture of a basic spiritual intention governing Mozart’s composition of the opera for the Carnival season of 1781 at the Munich court. Mozart’s Idomeneo is a Christian sacrifice drama modeled on the Aqedah (the sacrifice of Isaac; Gen 22: 1–14), which, in Christian traditions, is understood typologically as pointing to the Passion of Christ. Oppositely, Fénélon’s and Danchet’s versions rather correspond to the biblical story of Jephthah (Judges 11: 29–30). In a brief concluding section of this article, I also discuss the contemporary cultural importance of reading a classical opera such as Mozart’s Idomeneo as a conscious product of Enlightened Christianity. In modern times, ecclesiastical boundaries and religious doctrines often seem to matter little in the music and theater culture of the Western world; classical opera is often staged more in order to respond to contemporary political or social issues than to communicate the original intentions of its creators (the so-called Regieoper). I argue that Idomeneo, with its historical intention, potentially can have an impact in a cultural theology (or a theologically informed modern worldview), and further, in dialogue with a recent volume discussing the “music of theology”, that such a role for a piece of music must be developed in concrete musical (or music dramatic) contexts, not as a general philosophical contention. Mozart’s Idomeneo may work in a modern cultural context because it functions as a parable, easily understandable also in a modern political or social context, because of its deep human (psychological) insight and the empathy brought to bear on all the characters of the opera.
