2025 March - 109 articles

Cover Story: In this figure, graphite foils (carbon atoms in grey) are depicted in contact with H2 gas (shown in pink closer to the surface and in blue farther from it). The molecules are mobile on the surface. Molecular adsorption and desorption continuously occur, resulting in opposite unidirectional fluxes, symbolized by red and blue arrows. Molecular dynamics simulations show that the fluxes are proportional to the activity of the gas and the adsorbed phase. This differs from the well-known Langmuir adsorption kinetics. New analytical expressions are derived to model adsorption/desorption kinetics and clarify the link with non-equilibrium thermodynamics. The analysis sheds a new light on adsorption/desorption dynamics in both equilibrium and non-equilibrium conditions. View this paper
