10th Anniversary
The year 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of Fermentation, a peer-reviewed open access journal on all research areas of fermentation related to new and emerging products, processes, and technologies including biopharmaceuticals and biotech drugs. With an Impact Factor of 3.3 and CiteScore of 3.8, the journal is indexed within Scopus, SCIE (Web of Science), PubAg, FSTA, Inspec, CAPlus/SciFinder, and other databases. The journal has published more than 3000 papers from more than 18000 authors. More than 4300 reviewers have reviewed papers for the journal at least once. We equally value the contributions made by our editors, authors, and reviewers.
In honor of the journal’s 10th anniversary, we are reflecting on our past accomplishments and embarking on an exciting new chapter. We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone for our journal and explore the content we have prepared for you below.
Journal History
The inaugural issue was released. Fermentation was published as a quarterly journal.
Dr. Badal C. Saha was appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of Fermentation.
Fermentation was indexed in DOAJ.
Fermentation announced the first edition of the Travel awards.
Fermentation was indexed in Inspec (IET).
Fermentation was indexed in Scopus (Elsevier), starting with Volume 1 (Issue 1).
Fermentation received its first Impact Factor (3.975).
Fermentation established the following sections:
- Microbial Metabolism, Physiology & Genetics;
- Fermentation Process Design;
- Fermentation for Food and Beverages;
- Industrial Fermentation.
Fermentation announced the first edition of the Outstanding Reviewer Award and Best Paper Award.
Fermentation received its 2021 Impact Factor (5.123).
Prof. Dr. Thaddeus Ezeji was Appointed Section Editor-in-Chief of the Section “Fermentation Process Design” in Fermentation.
Prof. Dr. Miguel Ladero was Appointed Associate Editor of the Section “Fermentation Process Design” in Fermentation.

With 2025 marking the 10th anniversary of Fermentation (ISSN 2311-5637), I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the journal’s achievements over the last 10 years. The journal was initially launched as a quarterly journal and became monthly in 2022. It has achieved significant success, with an impact factor of 3.3 (5-year impact factor of 3.7) and CiteScore of 3.8. Fermentation has published 3197 papers. It has now five sections: (1) Microbial Metabolism, Physiology and Genetics; (2) Fermentation Process Design; (3) Industrial Fermentation; (4) Fermentation for Food and Beverages; and (5) Probiotic Strains and Fermentation. Each section is headed by a Section Editor-in-Chief and managed by the Section Managing Editor. The Editorial Office is run by at least 15 staff members and the Managing Editor. I wish to thank the 177 Editorial Board Members, 3 Associate Editors, 121 Guest Editors, 42 Topical Panel Members, and other Fermentation Office personnel for their contributions. Special thanks to all authors, reviewers, and Academic Editors, who provided excellent reviews in a timely manner. At present, Fermentation provides Travel Awards, Outstanding Reviewer Awards, and Best Paper Awards, in addition to Meeting Sponsorships. It has already become a leading journal in the area of industrial and applied microbiology and biotechnology.

First, congratulations to Fermentation on its 10th anniversary!
As the Editor-in-Chief of the "Probiotic Strains and Fermentation" section, I am very glad to see that we have published over 100 high-quality papers in our section. This shows how respected and influential our journal is in the academic community.
Looking ahead, I will keep working closely with the editorial team to maintain our high standard of submissions. I believe that our journal will become a top journal in the field of fermentation in the next decade, presenting new insights and significant advancements to the world.
