Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue provides an opportunity to publish studies on antioxidant botanical extracts or phytochemicals investigated in the context of neurological disease. There is tremendous interest worldwide in exploring botanicals as a source of novel therapeutic agents for neurodegenerative disorders. For example, twenty or more reviews have been published since 2016 describing studies on herbal medicines from different regions of the world as potential treatments for Alzheimer’s disease. Despite differences in their aetiology, many neurological diseases possess the common pathological features of oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction, which themselves are correlated. Numerous plant extracts and isolated phytochemicals have been shown to have antioxidant effects and/or effects on mitochondrial function with implications for neuronal health. The compilation of multiple peer-reviewed reports of such studies in a single issue of this journal will facilitate the exchange of data, ideas, and methodologies among those in this field of research, and also present them to a wider audience. We encourage you to submit your manuscript on this topic to be considered for inclusion in this Special Issue.
