Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce the launch of a new Special Issue of Diagnostics focusing on ‘Advances in Breast Biopsy’. Breast cancer is a common malignant tumor for women around the world. Accurate diagnosis of breast cancer among the possible abnormalities is the initial step prior to cancer treatment. For those who suspect they may have breast cancer, percutaneous breast biopsy is playing an important role for diagnosis in clinical practice. With the advance development of image-guiding techniques, including stereotactic/tomosynthesis guided biopsy, sonographic guided biopsy, MRI-guided biopsy, and contrast-enhanced mammographic guided biopsy, the high performance of biopsy, regardless of whether it is for microcalcifications or masses, can almost completely replace surgical biopsy. What is more, this is possible not only for diagnosis—the biopsy technique can help surgical planning and non-surgical excision or provide specimens for biomarker tests.

This Special Issue on ‘Advances in Breast Biopsy’ aims to share authors’ experiences and ideas around this topic, including the aspects of biopsy techniques, imaging, surgery, pathology, or others. All efforts which can help to advance breast biopsy are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.

With the increasing use of MRI in clinical practice, the need for MRI-guided intervention is also increasing. Indeterminate lesions identified on MRI without mammographic or sonographic correlates will need to be approached under MRI guidance. MRI-guided biopsy is a skill that can be acquired with proper training and guidance. These procedures have their own set of challenges and issues; some of them are specific to the patient habitus in this region. Adequate knowledge and understanding of the challenges can help the radiologist to be better equipped to face these issues and solve them promptly during the procedure, thus increasing the overall success rate of the procedure. Not much local data from Asian countries is available on this front. This paper aims to share common challenges one may face while performing MRI-guided biopsy and share some tips and tricks to address these problems. Hopefully, this will help the readers achieve a higher success rate for MRI-guided interventions in their clinical practice. Full article
