The Impact of Emotional Expression in Social Media on Quality of Life

Social media has become a crucial platform for emotional expression, significantly impacting our quality of life and well-being. This Special Issue, ‘The Impact of Emotional Expression in Social Media on Quality of Life’, examines the relationship between emotional expression in social media platforms and its effects on individual and communal health. As digital communication grows, understanding how emotions are conveyed and perceived online is essential for promoting mental health and well-being.

Social media offers both opportunities and challenges. It can enhance quality of life by fostering emotional support, building communities, and enabling self-expression, all contributing to better mental health outcomes and social connectedness. However, risks like cyberbullying, social comparison, and misinformation can lead to decreased life satisfaction and mental health issues. This highlights the need to examine how emotional expression on social media can either foster connections that support health promotion or contribute to isolation and negative health outcomes.

This Special Issue invites scholars from diverse fields—including Psychology, Public Health, Cultural Studies, Digital Humanities, Health Communication, Sociology, Behavioral Science, Media Studies, Technology and Innovation Studies, and Neuroscience—to contribute insights into how emotional expression on social media can be harnessed for health promotion. By addressing the psychological, social, and cultural impacts of online interactions, we aim to explore how social media influences mental health, well-being, and community resilience, contributing to public health improvement.

Manuscript Submission Information

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
