Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Herbal drugs have been used over centuries in the prevention and the treatment of various human diseases, among which are skin disorders. Across different cultures and traditional medicine systems, plant-derived preparations have been valued for their ability to support skin health and treat a variety of dermatological conditions. Research on herbal extract effects in various skin disorders has shown that active ingredients from these extracts can modulate inflammatory pathways, protect skin cells from oxidative stress, and even promote collagen synthesis, which aid in the prevention of wrinkle formation and support overall skin integrity. According to previous research, herbal extracts could not only contribute to the management of skin disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, and photoaging, but also be incorporated as active ingredients in cosmetic and cosmeceutical products aimed at maintaining skin health. Their appeal lies in combining therapeutic activity with generally favorable safety profiles. However, there is still a clear need for well-designed clinical studies to confirm both the efficacy and safety of herbal extracts in skin research. Further randomized controlled trials with standardized preparations are necessary to validate their role as evidence-based adjuncts or alternatives in dermatologic care, ensuring that their traditional uses are supported by modern scientific evidence.
