Sustainable Bioeconomy Development in the Emerging BRICS+ and LMICs Healthcare Markets across the Global South

Dear Colleagues,

The Emerging BRICS and associated MINT/EM7 healthcare markets have remained the engine of real GDP growth worldwide for the majority of the past three decades. Thus, they continue to shape global demand for medical goods and services.

The challenges posed by the UN adopted Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) should supposedly tackle the widespread poverty across dozens of LMICs countries in the Global South.

A sustainable bioeconomy might serve as a convenient example of how to develop new and innovative business models for the pharmaceutical, medical device, IT and food industries, particularly those based in South Asia, ASEAN and East Asian countries and Latin America.

Knowledge and analytical tools of health economics may be particularly useful in an era when accumulated demographic pressure increases global demand for food and energy. At the same time, there must be constraints to ensure that resources are replenished at the same pace they are being consumed. This challenge has been faced by legacy health economies for almost a century.

For this purpose, we welcome an array of contributions dealing with the applications of bioeconomy and sustainable development concepts to inequality in the access and affordability of sustainable education, health care, social and retirement policies and employment in bioeconomy sectors across  LMICs countries worldwide.

Manuscript Submission Information

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
