Cover Story: Originally for diabetes, recent sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i) trials have demonstrated impressive cardiovascular and renal benefits, regardless of diabetic status. Benefits include reductions in heart attacks, strokes, cardiovascular deaths, hospitalizations for heart failure, and deaths, in addition to the delayed onset of dialysis. The cardiorenal benefits and safety of these disease-modifying agents have led to the rapid adoption of SGLT2i as a foundational therapy in cardiovascular and renal guidelines. View this paper
