Corneal Transplantation: Recent Advances and Current Perspectives

Dear Colleagues,

Corneal diseases are one of the leading causes of blindness globally. The standard treatment of care includes corneal transplantation. However, keratoplasties rely majorly on donor tissues, which unfortunately are in limited supply, restricting treatment options. Although the burden on the availability of the donor tissues has been minimized with recent advances in keratoplasty techniques, modern devices, and alternative options such as cultured cell transplantation, the requirement is still high to treat corneal diseases globally. Alternative options in advancing the field of corneal transplantation are underway. Hence, this Special Issue aims to look the future of corneal transplantation, and authors are encouraged to submit articles related to a) advanced corneal transplantation techniques; b) inclusion of artificial intelligence for diagnosis and outcome predictions; c) cultured cells or tissue engineering; d) artificial cornea; e) modern day devices; f) robotics in eye surgery; g) modern eye banking; f) imaging; and g) healthcare economics in keratoplasty.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
