Stomatognathic Diseases: State of the Art and Future Perspectives (Second Edition)

Dear Colleagues,

Stomatognathic systems are heterogenous anatomic apparatuses that consist of radically different organs: teeth, bones that form the oral cavity, soft tissues (gingiva, mucosa, tongue, cheeks, lips), muscles that are involved in chewing and swallowing, salivary glands, and temporomandibular joints. Despite their differences, the pathologies of organs in the stomatognathic system share common characteristics, the most important of which is that they may be heavily linked to general health conditions. Due to reciprocal interactions between periodontitis and diabetes and multiorgan pathologies such as lichen planus and oral/salivary gland cancer, multidisciplinary approaches are often required.

In recent years, the identification of novel molecular biomarkers and novel technologies has advanced the stratification of patients in order to individualize the whole pathway of care. In order to maximize the effectiveness of this strategy, this Special Issue has been conceived as a compendium of the best clinical practices and future perspectives related to the clinical and surgical management of stomatognathic diseases.

After the success of the Special Issue “Stomatognathic Diseases: State of the Art and Future Perspectives” (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/jcm/special_issues/C1483T40T0), this second edition is in production. We continue to encourage authors to submit original articles (prospective studies and reviews will be preferred) that present robust scientific methods, thus representing a topical and immediately available guide for physicians that contains evidence-based approaches.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
