Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In the past two decades, the field of urethral reconstruction has made great leaps. Not only have new graft tissues been introduced which are now standard, and not only have new techniques been developed to address even the most severe strictures, but there is also a growing number of specialized reconstructive urologists increasing the availability for state-of-the-art urethral reconstruction.
As the number of urethral reconstructions increases, so does the evolution of the field and its techniques. In the past several years, many notable variations of established surgeries have been published that show improved outcomes. Additionally, while reconstructive urologists turn their attention to following outcomes of their surgeries in more detail, we are obtaining a more and more refined view of how best to improve our patients’ lives.
It should be noted that as in any reconstructive surgical field, one size will not fit all, and that a reconstructive urologist will often apply variations of certain techniques and sometimes even apply multiple different techniques. Therefore, with every additional technique reported, our armamentarium increases, and so does the chance to treat every patient in an ideal manner.
This Special Issue on new trends in urethral reconstruction is intended to provide a collection of new and updated techniques presenting state-of-the-art guidance to optimize urethral reconstruction.
