Entropy, Volume 22, Issue 6

2020 June - 117 articles

Cover Story: The Coding Theorem Method (CTM) and Block Decomposition Method (BDM) have been serving the community as alternatives to the popular statistical lossless compression algorithms used to estimate Algorithmic (Kolmogorov) complexity. In this issue, the methods are reviewed and evaluated, and new directions explored. In particular, one direction is where methods of algorithmic information help deal with pressing questions in science related to causality. A new field has been introduced, called Algorithmic Information Dynamics (AID), an algorithmic probabilistic framework for causal discovery and causal analysis. AID helps solve inverse problems using computational tools drawn from algorithmic information based on algorithmic probability with CTM and BDM, enabling the emergence of AID thanks to their sensitivity to small changes suitable for perturbation analysis at the core of AID.
