2019 March-2 - 222 articles

Cover Story: Tidal stream turbines operate in some of the most energetic seas, and consequently must withstand highly dynamic mechanical loading. At present, very few studies have reported on the operational performance of full-scale devices, providing little knowledge on the suitability of design tools used by turbine developers to quantify mechanical loading. The rotor loading characteristics of a full-scale turbine were measured and compared with theoretical predictions, with focus on the effects that the ambient environment has on device performance.
