2024 December-1 - 401 articles

Cover Story: With global energy concerns rising, effective strategies are needed to promote sustainable practices in households. Gamification, integrating game-design elements into energy management, is a promising approach to engaging users and fostering lasting behavioral changes. This review explores theoretical aspects of gamification, its application in energy management, and the long-term impact of elements like feedback, social interactions, and leaderboards on user motivation. Key findings highlight the importance of social game elements and user satisfaction in driving sustainable energy behaviors. We discuss challenges in design and evaluation and propose innovative approaches like demand-side management (DSM) to enhance engagement and achieve long-term results in household energy management.
