2025 February - 90 articles

Cover Story: This study explores a mission concept for a recoverable LEO satellite carrying a scientific payload, through the comparison between one using an aero-brake heat shield without propulsion assistance and another with the same system but supported by a thruster. Aerodynamic analysis via DSMC assessed drag and stability. A ∆V of ~100 m/s cut descent time from 54 days to under 1 h, maintaining trajectory. Drag uncertainties caused ~100 km dispersion, while a ±1% impulse error increased it to 400 km. A 4 kg monopropellant thruster was designed within a 250 mm high and 350 mm diameter casing, supporting three layout options. View this paper
