Cover Story: The equation of state is a fundamental property of nuclear matter governing the size and radius of neutron stars, and the dynamics of neutron star mergers. In addition to astrophysical observations, experiments with heavy-ion collisions at relativistic beam energies have contributed to constrain the parameters of the equation-of-state for symmetric and neutron-rich matter at high density, which exists in the core of neutron stars. The article reviews the status of the experimental research in the laboratory and outlines future prospects. View this paper
