Fractal and Fractional, Volume 8, Issue 4

2024 April - 67 articles

Cover Story: This study uses a hyper-heuristic approach to design heuristic-based tuners for fractional-order PID (FOPID) controllers within Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) systems. This approach allows for the automated generation of metaphor-less metaheuristics by combining population-based search operators, reducing human bias in the tuning process. The automatically tailored metaheuristic effectively fine-tunes FOPID controller parameters to enhance control performance, achieving faster response times and virtually eliminating overshoot. This research also explores the impact of fractional orders on conventional PID controllers. It assesses and highlights the tuned FOPID controller’s resilience against disturbances, providing substantial advancements in electrical engineering and control systems. View this paper
